HOW EVOLUTION "BUILT" MY COMPUTER

A few years ago, I purchased a new computer for myself. When I opened it up, I found a note describing how the computer was manufactured. Without indicating how the component parts came to be, it indicated that they all were placed in a washing machine which was then filled with water and run for a week. At the end of that time, the assembled computer was removed from the washing machine.

You don't believe me? GOOD FOR YOU!!

We all know it takes intelligence to design and build a computer. Even so, there's a popular view that this universe and all that is in it came about by chance. However, everything that exists from the microscopic to the macroscopic level is extremely complex, most especially the human body. Realistically, none of it could have come about by chance. There had to be an "intelligent designer". Let's call him God.

The God of the Bible is revealed as the creator and sustainer of all that is. At every instant, he's aware of the location of every particle in the universe and what it's doing. This is the God I thank for the existence of this world, the people in it, this country and indeed all that exists. He's also the God I thank for bringing me to this company and for keeping and sustaining me here for 30 years - including through times during which I wondered if I might have to go out on LTD or a less than "full" retirement. I also thank God for bringing me to this new season of life - namely, retirement.

As much as I'm looking forward to retirement, I'm also eagerly looking forward to what awaits at the end of this life, namely a perfect body in which I'll live a never-ending life in the new heavens and on the new Earth, with my Savior and Lord Jesus Christ.

Various people have asked me what I plan to do. Sometimes I say that I plan to go home and twiddle my thumbs. The responses to that have been amusing - don't believe it. When you re-tire a car, you put new tires on it so it can go again. My purpose is to identify all that God wants me to be and do, then with His help and by His grace and strength, diligently and faithfully pursue the accomplishment of those things.

One of those things involves hiking the Appalachian Trail, handing out the cards, both sides of which are pictured on the HOME page, as I interact with other hikers as well as friends and acquaintances in day-to-day life.

This document is based on the speech given by me, "Upward Call", at my retirement party.
